Next Meeting Nov 25

at 1:00pm, Albuquerque, at 5701 Klondike ST NE, Albuquerque. There will also be a teleconference: call Cheryl at 505-270-8438 for more information.
Agenda includes summarizing results of Consensus Units, drafting new LWVNM position.

The study group has been focusing on redistricting - the area where League members, in the Spring 2008 unit meetings, felt we could do the most good in lobbying the 2009 Legislature. The group has arrived at three questions - who should draw redistricting plans, what criteria should be used, and how should the public be involved.

The LWVNM Board has approved the Questions that the study group submitted, which will appear in the Fall 2008 La Palabra. The Study Guide is being printed in all of the November 2008 local Voters. A new article, Independent Redistricting Commissions is also being printed in the November Voters. Consensus meetings are scheduled throughout the state:

The position will be submitted to the LWVNM Board at their January 10, 2009 meeting. And the Legislature will go into session on January 20th.

The Study Group welcomes new members. If you'd like to join, please send a message to Cheryl Haaker which gives your name and your local League (or MAL).
